THE NEWS ARCHIVE

Spring is here and 2008 looks like it's going to be a great year.
Already I've worked on a project that fulfills a lifelong dream -
to work with director Terry Gilliam. And now I've done it! Look for
me on the big screen in 2009 in "The Imaginaruim of Doctor Parnassus"
playing a stuttering paramedic opposite Lily Cole and Christopher
Plummer. The year to date has been full of voice over work, but the
expectations are good for the summer. So hopefully more dream-come-true news will be coming your way. Maybe the Coen Brothers next? Who knows?

I've had a fantastic summer and early fall. I mean I'm a new father, so how can one complain about a thing like that? Workwise, there are several updates to report. "The Bar," my short film starring Peter DeLuise and Simone Bailly has been accepted at several festivals, premiering at the Montreal World Film Festival, then playing in Edmonton, Whistler, and at the LA Shorts Festival. More to come there, I'm hoping.

I've also had the opportunity of working on Robson Arms again, as the same character, as well as voicing several cartoons and video games, some of which I'm not allowed to talk about, so- better not mention any specifically, at least not yet. Also, the ad I did for the British Columbia Lotteries has been airing an awful lot, prompting strangers to ask me "How do I look?" and expecting to be berated, and I've had the absolute pleasure of working on both "Psych" and "Men In Trees." Here's hoping the winter holds many more fabulous opportunities!

My new film 'The Bar', starring myelf, Peter Deluise, and
Simone Bailly shoots on the weekend of Feb 24th and 25th! Look for it
at a film festival near you this coming year. It's a hilarious film
noir as if written by the Zuckers - you know - the guys who made
Airplane! and Police Squad!

The film is already the winner of one contest - the Hot Shots shorts
scriptwriting contest engineered by The Celluloid Social Club - and
the makers of it are hopeful that it will win all other awards
available to it, twice each. Stay tuned for showtimes and dates near
you!

So SPANK! is finally done, but what a weekend! I spent Saturday shooting a 48hour bloodshots short film called Hell's Habit. It's a supernatural nunsploitation film shot on 8mm film in the Italian style. We even translated dialogue into Italian, but the movie's silent, so you can't really tell. It's subtitled in English. And you can watch it right here, courtesy of YouTube!

The darks are really dark, and the sound drops out strangely, both problems my director Mike Jackson claims are YouTube only issues. The master is brighter and fully sonourous. Then Sunday morning I put a hilarious audition on tape (cross your fingers) and in the afternoon I pitched the Hot Shots Short Film to the jury. Pretty soon we'll be shooting it - if they see the light. Then it was straight to bed (not hard after staying up til 4 the night before) because I had to get up at 5 am Monday to shoot a commercial for Career Builders. So, my American friends, watch for me getting hit in the back with a poison pen in the coming months. Let me know if you see it.

This Thursday, July 13th, I'll be hosting a fashion show at the Commodore Ballroom dressed up as the drunken Spuzzum The Clown. The event features clothing from Deuce on Powell Street in Vancouver, and also the band Swollen Members, among other excitements. Proceeds from the event will go to charity. Also, look for me throughout the lower mainland providing percussion for a
band of travelling minstrels. We're wandering the streets singing songs about summer to promote the Whistler Music and Arts Festival. Keep checking the photo pages for creepy clown pics, by the way, I'll be adding them soon.

Well, I think it was a hit! Our Crazy8's movie "Remission Impossible" closed out the ceremonies last Saturday night at the Centre for the Performing Arts in Vancouver. Check out the Podcasts at crazy8s.cc for more info. Director Ken Hegan has sent the film off to Toronto International Film Festival as well as many others to follow so I'll try to keep you posted regarding screenings in your area. So I'm back to the grind again, now that the glamourous part is over, with upcoming voice gigs on top secret animated shows and video games, and my small, but funny part on season two of Robson Arms, which I'm slated to shoot later this month. In the meantime I'm trying to write a short film a week for the summer as well as finish a treatment for a feature length comedy for Steam Powered Films and get an outline written for a feature drama for which I'm applying to Telefilm Canada for funding. Wish me luck!

Well. The good people of Comcast have seen fit to reward me with a day of shooting on their latest commercial series. I don't know what I'll have do do as yet, but I'm sure excited about it. My friends all across the United States should have a chance to see me in action in this one, but I don't know how much exposure we'll get here in Canada or in the rest of the world. Let me know if you spot it!

After a flourish of auditions this past week, I'm pleased to announce that the British Columbia Lottery Commision has hired me to appear in one of their upcoming spots! Out of all the commercials I've done, this is the first (maybe the second) that will play here in BC with such wide exposure. I'm looking forward to the shoot this Wednesday

After much gruelling auditioning, I have booked the role of Max in The Virtual Stage's production of Andy Thompson's "Spank!" It's a great looking cast. We're doing a workshop at the end of May, and I don't know if there'll be a public exhibition at that time. But the official run will be in October. It's a skookum part for me. I'm really excited about it.

Look out for me on Robson Arms - I just booked a day on season 2.

We're in! Writer/Director Ken Hegan, producer Kirsten Newlands, and actors David Lewis and myself rocked our pitch to the Crazy 8's film festival! Our as yet unproduced comedy short "Race for the Cure" will premiere on June 3rd at The Centre for the Performing Arts in Vancouver as part of the annual Crazy 8's screenings. Ken and I celebrated our acceptance over Sanish brandy last night while visiting with Sam Dulmage. Check out www.crazy8s.cc for more details.
