I'm back in Vancouver after a three week stint in beautiful
Kamloops, British Columbia playing Isaac Preston in the SciFi
Network's latest Movie Of the Week "Lost Treasure of the Grand
Canyon." It was Adventure Fun Camp - at least that's how I came to
think of it. On the first day of shooting I had to learn how to pilot
a horse and buggy, then do so, arriving at a mark between the camera
and a three hundred foot drop-off. The second day had me horseback
riding down a steep sandy slope, sitting out a genuine sandstorm and
riding an ATV up a mountain. The third day was a pit full of cold
water and peat-moss to simulate quicksand (not a metaphor), and the
fourth day was an abandoned quarry, overgrown with long grasses and
populated by marmots - all in the height of wood tick season.
Adventure fun camp indeed. I played opposite one of the finest
casts I've had the pleasure of working with: Shannen Doherty, Michael
Shanks, JR Bourne, Toby Berner, Heather Doerksen, and Duncan Fraser to
name a few. The movie was directed by Farhad Mann, who directed, among
numerous other things, a great episode of Max Headroom - an oft
overlooked television gem - providing me with a vicarious
geek-thrill.
